Heather's 30th

My friend Heather celebrated her 30th this weekend. The party was so much fun (even though I was really sick at the time with a terrible respiratory virus)! Heather is a beautiful person, inside and out. We met as night shift nurses back in 2003 and have been great friends since. Happy Birthday Heather!

Slacker

I have a new favorite customizable Internet radio. Case and I were shopping at Stanton Home Furnishings and were really digging the music they were playing in their showroom. Stanton, by the way, is a wonderful little boutique furniture store. We are really into music so are never ashamed to ask when we hear something we like. The guy behind the counter told us he was streaming www.slacker.com. Literally the moment we got back in the car I downloaded the iPhone App. Before you write it off as a Pandora clone, which might I add was my previous favorite, I think the music options are better. It also does a better job of "picking" what songs it thinks I would like. Within a matter of 4 days I have been introduced to so many new artists that I now know and love! My favorite station is Indie Chill.

Rugs and chairs

This past weekend were brought home 6 rugs "on loan" to see how they look in the new space, and to make a final decision on which 2 we wanted to purchase. At the end of the weekend I was 100% decided on my favorite ones, Casey on the other hand, only 80%. Looks like the rug hunt continues.....

As far as chairs go we were successful in picking out some that we both love!

Travel by Train @ The EARL

Last night we went out to The EARL in East Atlanta to check out our friend's headlining band, Travel by Train. TbT is a new indie rock band out of Atlanta. Our friend Mike Lamond started playing bass for them recently, and let me tell you, the show was amazing. Casey and Mike went to high school together so a group of us went out to support him. Watching them play last night brought back memories (for Casey) of the good ol' days when Casey and Mike used to jam in high school. Check them out on facebook.. The lead singer, Kelly, has a unique sound all her own; sortof Sia meets Fiona Apple. I hope I get the opportunity to hear them live again sometime soon.

I have been searching for an antique crystal chandelier for my new master bathroom, and FINALLY found one I'm in love with! I lucked out at Scott Antique Market a couple weekends ago. The original finish was brass, but I dropped it by Buckhead Plating last week and they re-finished in Nickel, to match the finishes in the master bath.

Christmas and the day after

This year Casey and I awoke on Christmas morning in our apartment and exchanged gifts. The remainder of the day was spent at the Jones'. On the 26th we spent the entire day with the Jumpers'. It was so nice to be able to spend the entire day with each family (relaxing, opening presents, eating, napping, talking, etc) without having to drive from place to place. We ate some amazing food and got to catch up with everyone. It was especially fun getting to hang out with my brother and his wife Katie as they live out of state and we don't get to see them as often. This Christmas was perfect as I got to spend it with everyone I love; I am blessed.

Tonight we had my family Christmas party with my daddy's side of the family. It was fun getting to catch up with everyone!

Scott Antique Market strike-out

I love Scott Antique Market! One weekend every month the Scott Antique Market comes to the Atlanta Expo Centers with displays of antiques and collectibles. In the past we have walked away with some great finds for the house. This month in particular we had specific items in mind. For one, I was on a search for an antique crystal chandelier for the new master bathroom. I additionally wanted to find some dresser pulls/knobs, sconces, and anything else that might go great in our soon to be newly decorated living room. Well, it was a bust. The only item we purchased the entire day (4 hours later) was a bottle of jewelry cleaner. Yes, I'm a sucker for demonstrations. I swear my rings haven't looked this shiny in the past 6 1/2 years! I have posted some of our fun finds, but nothing that we ended up purchasing. Maybe next month we'll have better luck.

I've fallen in love... with a new restaurant

We had heard many good reviews about Bocado (new restaurant in town), but were pleasantly surprised at HOW delicious it was. I mean, we're already talking about going again sometime this week; Casey and I are big into supporting our neighborhood restaurants, especially if they're fantastic.

I had the roasted poblano and pimento cheese sandwich with bacon and fried green tomato. It came with a most delectable bowl of tomato bisque. Casey ordered the Bocado burger stack with american cheese, house-made pickles, and fries. We WILL be going back soon. Check out their website.

I love renovating!

Casey and I have lived in our 1950 ranch-style home since December 2003. Earlier this year we decided that we wanted a little more space; the decision was to move... or renovate. We spent several weekends house hunting but never found what we were looking for. After much discussion we came across 2 of our new favorite people (our architect and builder). With their expertise we were able to design a home that Casey and I are so excited about. It will be completed in 2 phases (phase 2 is at least a couple of years down the road). With phase 1, we will add a master suite and a 2nd floor (to be finished out with phase 2), not to mention a complete face lift.

We moved out on August 15th into an above-the-garage apartment behind our neighbors house. It is very (very) small, but we've happily made it our temporary home. Pictured is our house in 2003, pencil drawing of blueprint, our current renovation status, and our temporary over-the-garage apartment.

My one (major) upset during this process is that due the size of our dwelling I had to purchase a small FAKE Christmas tree. I am a strong advocate for real Christmas trees so it absolutely killed me that I couldn't fit one in the apartment. I guess I technically could have purchased a tiny real Christmas tree, but I couldn't rationalize spending money on a new tiny tree stand, new decorations, lights, etc. for only one year of use.
